General Event Information:

  1. Who can attend the event?

    • The event is open to underrepresented minority students in grades 6-12 who are interested in exploring a career in dentistry.

  2. Is registration required?

    • Yes, registration is required, and spots are limited. Be sure to sign up by the deadline to secure your spot!

  3. What is the cost to attend the event?

    • The event is completely free for all participants.

  4. Where and when will the event take place?

    • The event will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the UMKC School of Dentistry, 650 E. 25th St, Kansas City, MO.

  5. What should students wear?

    • Closed toe shoes are required. Casual or comfortable clothing is recommended. We will provide an event t-shirt for participants.

  6. Is food provided?

    • Yes, a light breakfast and lunch will be provided for all participants and volunteers.

  7. What activities will the students be participating in?

    • Students will engage in hands-on dental activities like pouring casts, taking radiographs, using instruments, participating in mock procedures, and interacting with professionals. They will also hear presentations from current dental professionals and UMKC's admissions team.

For Parents & Guardians:

  1. Do I need to stay at the event with my child?

    • Yes, parents or guardians of students under 18 must stay with their child for the duration of the event.

  2. What safety precautions are in place?

    • The event will be held in a secure environment with appropriate supervision, and we will follow any relevant health and safety guidelines.

  3. Is parking available?

    • Yes, free parking is available at the UMKC School of Dentistry. Detailed parking instructions will be email the registered parent/guardian one week prior to the event.

For Volunteers:

  1. Who can volunteer for this event?

    • Volunteering is currently limited to dental professionals, including dentists, dental hygienists, dental students, and student hygienists.

  2. What are the volunteer responsibilities?

    • Volunteers will help with event setup, registration, guiding participants, assisting with hands-on activities, passing out supplies, and encouraging participants throughout the day.

  3. When should volunteers arrive?

    • Volunteers are expected to arrive by 7:30 AM and stay until 1:30 PM to assist with event setup and breakdown.

  4. What should volunteers wear?

    • Volunteers should wear scrubs, and an event t-shirt will be provided.

  5. Will meals be provided for volunteers?

    • Yes, a light breakfast and lunch will be provided for all volunteers.

  6. How do I sign up to volunteer?

    • You can sign up by completing the volunteer registration form.

Donating/Supporting the Event:

  1. How can I donate to support the event?

    • You can donate directly through our website by clicking the "Donate" button. Pre-set donation options include $100, $250, $500, and $1,000, or you can make a custom donation amount of your choice.

  2. What will my donation support?

    • Donations help fund critical elements of the event, such as providing educational materials, lab supplies, t-shirts for participants, hygiene kits, meals, and raffle prizes.

  3. Can I or my company become an official event sponsor?

    • Yes! If you, your company, or organization would like to become an official sponsor, please email us at BlackDentalStudents@gmail.com, and we will send you our sponsorship packet.

  4. Is my donation tax-deductible?

    • At this time, donations are not tax-deductible as we are not yet a 501(c)(3) organization. We are actively working toward achieving that status, but it has not been finalized. We appreciate your support and will update you once we reach this milestone!

  5. Are there any other ways to support the event besides donating?

    • Yes, we are also looking for volunteers to help with the event! If you are a dental professional or student, you can sign up to volunteer by filling out the volunteer registration form on our website.
